Artificial Intelligence for Educators
Course overview
For its proponents, Artificial Intelligence is the future of education, and it’s already showing up in the learning tools at home & in the classroom. The goal of artificial intelligence in education is to use technology to personalise teaching by tailoring the learning experience to individual student needs. The advancement of AI in education, and in the use of data in education decision making, has the potential to fundamentally change the way we teach and learn, and the way we assess student outcomes. Educators are increasingly applying AI to their classrooms, and it’s creating some innovative and exciting outcomes in both the classroom and beyond. It is believed that AI will personalise education for every child in a manner hitherto unseen.
Artificial Intelligence - what is the big deal?
AI describes the use of computers to perform tasks or functions that were previously seen as human-only. The basic idea is that machine learning systems, often consisting of software, hardware, and algorithms can be trained to perform complex tasks like recognizing objects, for example, to facilitate self-driving cars. But is recognizing various objects a big thing? Most human babies can do that! So what is the big deal? Well, as we will see what we consider as simple everyday tasks like recognising objects, balancing things, opening doors etc are a big achievement for machines. Similarly, what can be considered a big thing for us like processing tons of data or working non-stop, is easy for machines. This is where the potential for collaboration exists. This is why we are talking about learning and looking at its nuances aspects.
